DISABLED people in Pendle are being urged to have their say on the services they receive to ensure their needs are met.

Pendle Partnership has teamed up with Pendle Council, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and other organisations to develop a disability equality scheme to help improve and enhance the way services are accessed.

The group wants to hear from people who either have or care for someone with physical or mental disabilities, learning difficulties and sensory impairments, to find out what they think about services and what could be improved.

Sarah Gaskill, the council's diversity and equality officer said it was a legal requirement to set up a disability equality scheme by December.

She said: "We want to really involve people with disabilities so that future services meet their needs.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for people to tell us how we are doing, where we are getting it right and where we could do better.

"We would welcome comments on services which may be changing as well as existing ones. We also want to know if people are aware of what services are available."

People can give their comments by telephone, e-mail, letter or fax. Alternatively arrangements can be made for a member of the group to meet with individuals or groups.
