MEMBERS of a gang of car vandals have been leaving behind their "calling card" in the form of a graffiti logo.

Police said that over the past three weeks a number of vehicles have been damaged around the Stephen Street area of Mill Hill.

Hundreds of pounds worth of damage has been caused after the gang poured paintstripper on vehicles or scratched paint off door panels and other parts of the bodywork.

The letters MHB and other logos are usually spray painted on a wall nearby.

MHB is believed to stand for Mill Hill Boys - a local gang.

Now police are urging residents to come forward with information about possible gang members in a bid to put an end to the trail of destruction.

Officers will also search their databases to see if their computers throw up the names of any members who may have been in trouble with the police before.

The attacks have been taking place in the early hours.

Sgt Colin Dassow said: "We are ideally looking for people to give us names and addresses of the offenders.

"But if they cannot we are after any information that may help our investigation.

"We would also like people to keep a look out and if they see an offence being committed to ring us and report it.

"If they would like graffiti to be removed they are able to ring the council and request that."

Coun Malcolm Doherty, who represents Mill Hill and is the chairman of the Lancashire Police Authority, said that he had heard of the Mill Hill Boys some years ago but not recently.

He added: "That name has been around for years but this is the first time that I have heard it mentioned for quite a while.

"Residents in that area raised the issue of vandalism with me a few months ago, but I have not heard anything recently."
