A 10-YEAR-OLD boy was airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal injuries.

The youngster, was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital in the North West Air Ambulance after he fell over at St Marys RC Primary School in Sabden on Friday afternoon.

Claire Halstead, headteacher at the school in Watt Street, said: "He has only just left the building in the ambulance and his mother is with him and we are waiting for her to call us.

"But we think he is going to be fine."

Staff at the school called the emergency services at just after 2.50pm.

A spokesperson for the North West Air Ambulance Service, said: "We received a call after reports of a 10-year-old boy who had fallen from some gym equipment.

"He was taken to hospital via the air ambulance suffering from suspected spinal injuries."
