COMEDIAN Ted Robbins has equalled the world record of telling 17 jokes in one minute on his BBC Radio Lancashire morning show.

Clearly nervous, Ted had to tell as many jokes as he could in one minute, all with a beginning, middle and tag line.

After his attempt he was told by the Guinness Book of World Records adjudicator that 15 jokes would be counted.

Having practised on his long-suffering wife and done as many as 19, Ted, who lives in Crawshawbooth, demanded a recount.

Later in the day the good news came through that he was to be awarded two extra jokes and therefore had equalled the record.

Ted is star of the children's TV programme "The Slammer" and is well known for his portrayal of Den Perry in Phoenix Nights.

He also appears for Rossendale Rugby Club's 3rd 11.

He was delighted with his achievement and appeared on North West Tonight challenging his rival to a joke-out.

His wife Judy is also well-known across the Valley for her popular dance classes.
