POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an 89-year-old Burnley man sustained serious head injuries when his mobility scooter was in collision with a car this morning.

The incident happened around 11.25am at a traffic light junction on Belvedere Road, Burnley.

The man was travelling from Harry Potts Way on his scooter towards the town centre when he has collided with a silver Citroen C5 as he crossed the road.

The elderly man sustained significant head injuries and is currently being treated at Royal Blackburn hospital.

PC Mohammed Quraishi, from the Road Policing Unit, said: “I would appeal to anyone that witnessed this incident who hasn’t already spoken to police to get in touch."

The road was closed for two hours while an investigation was carried out.
