Two men have been charged in connection with an incident in which a pensioner said she was pushed down the stairs of her Brierfield home.

Ramunas Budvyatis, 30, and Skerskans Vjaceslavs, 28, both from Nelson, appeared before magistrates yesterday charged with burglary, theft or attempted theft with violence and wounding with intent.

The allegations relate to an incident at the home of Dorothy Hodgson, in which it is claimed the 74-year-old was pushed down her stairs when she interrupted two intruders.

The couple were remanded in custody when they appeared before Burnley magistrates.
