A 22-YEAR-OLD Nelson man is fighting for his life after crashing his go-kart in the town.
The man, who has not been named, was on a 90cc petrol driven go-kart when he collided with a parked car.
The accident happened in Southfield Street at around 9pm on Wednesday.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and he was taken by ambulance to Burnley General Hospital.
The man was later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at Royal Blackburn Hospital suffering from serious chest and head injuries.
Today neighbours said they were shocked by the accident.
A resident on Southfield Street, who did not wish to be named, said: "I didn't see it happen but I looked out my bedroom window and I saw him on the street. It looked quite bad.
"I saw him being taken away in the ambulance and it looked serious."
Police said a family liaison officer had been appointed to support the man's family.
Officers from Pennine Division's Road Policing Unit are appealing for witnesses following the incident.
Sgt Gareth Hill said: "I would appeal for anyone who may have seen the incident to come forward. The man has sustained serious injuries and we are keen to establish how this happened."
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Pennine Division Road Policing Unit at Colne on 01282 472431.
