THE death of a 96-year-old from heart failure was not linked to an earlier fall, an inquest heard.
Evelyn Collens, formerly of St Peter's Close, Clayton-le-Dale, fell out of her wheelchair at Nazareth House, Blackburn, where she went for day care.
After being admitted to Queen's Park Hospital following the accident on March 16, she was found to have no injuries and was sent home. But, after her condition deteriorated, she was re-admitted a week later where she was diagnosed with a fractured tibia. She continued to deteriorate and died in hospital on May 1.
Dr Richard Prescott, who carried out a post mortem examination, said it was unlikely that the fall had a connection to her death.
He said: "On the balance of probabilities it is less likely than not that the fracture, or its management, is linked to the death, given her heart condition."
The retired waitress died from heart failure caused by blood clots in her arteries, the inquest was told.
Coroner Michael Singleton recorded a verdict of natural causes.
