AN MP has vowed to continue a fight to find funds to help rebuild Todmorden's crumbling high school.

Calder Valley MP Chris McCafferty has promised to step up campaigning and lobbying ministers to secure funding for a new building at Todmorden High School.

The MP has raised the issue on several occasions over the last few years, including arranging for the former head of the school, Ed Collins, to meet with the schools minister to make the case in person.

Mr McCafferty said: "While Calderdale stands to benefit from a major investment in new secondary schools through Building Schools for the Future', this is likely to be some years ahead, and it is clear that Todmorden High School can not wait that long.

"The Department for Education knows that there are real concerns about the buildings at Todmorden, and I am pressing them as strongly as I can to find a way to release resources to enable a new school to be built as soon as possible."

Todmorden councillor Megan Swift, chair of the children and young person's scrutiny panel, added: "I am very pleased to be able to work with Chris on lobbying to try to secure the funding we need for the school.

"I know that the conditions at Todmorden do not make it easy for the staff and young people and I am determined to make sure that the council works with the local MP to do everything possible."

to make a strong case to Ministers for funding for Todmorden. "
