Crash on A56 near Accrington

MOTORISTS had to be diverted after a Royal Mail postal van was involved in a crash near Accrington this morning.

Emergency crews were called to the A56 near Sandy Lane after the red Vauxhall Combo Royal Mail van collided with a silver Volkswagen Bora car at just before 9am on Friday.

Paramedics treated the elderly driver of the Volkswagen Bora for minor injuries at the scene.

Police said another Royal Mail van was sent to collect the post from the vehicle involved in the crash.
