AN East Lancashire man bared all for an art exhibition in Salford.

Richard Crane, 26, volunteered for the Everyday People exhibition at The Lowry with other members of his family.

The daring exhibition by artist Spencer Tunick uses naked bodies in photos in locations around Manchester and Salford to depict the area’s industrial heritage.

Richard, of Guy Street, Padiham, who works for Tagtronics software firm in Darwen, decided to take part in the exhibition for a laugh.

He said: “I saw the advert on the web first and thought maybe, maybe not.

"But then I got a call of my sister asking if I was up for it.

“It’s probably one of those things you’d regret if you don’t do it.”

In the end Richard went to the photo shoot with sister Rachael, who lives in Cardiff, and mum Stephanie, who lives in Chorley.

There was no guarantee that all volunteers would make it on to the two-day photoshoot for the exhibition by photographer Spencer Tunick, so they arrived early.

“We got to the Lowry for about 2am thinking there wouldn’t be anyone queuing,” said Richard, “but there were already hundreds there.

“We almost went home but at about 4am they said everyone there would get in so it’s a good job we stayed, it was a brilliant experience in the end.”

The exhibition is at The Lowry until September 26 to celebrate the arts complex’s 10th anniversary.

Kate Farrell, The Lowry’s curator of special exhibitions, said: “We had a fantastic response from volunteers eager to work with Spencer and want to extend our thanks to everyone who took part.”

Richard has already been with his family to view the exhibition.

He said: “It looks really good, it was great to go and see it and he has done a fantastic job with it.

"I managed to pick myself out on a few of the pictures, I’m pretty close to the front on one of them.

"A few of my friends thought I was absolutely mad but they’ve all had a good laugh and a bit of a giggle over it.”
