A MAN has this afternoon appeared in court charged with the murder of Blackburn man Saheel Ahmed.

Mr Ahmed, 24, was found dead in an alley at the top of Warrington Street, Little Harwood, 15 days ago after police were called to a report of a disturbance.

A post-mortem investigation revealed Mr Ahmed, a telephone consultant who worked in Blackburn town centre, died of multiple stab wounds and incise wounds to the neck.

Naeem Majid Butt, 37, of Accrington Road, Blackburn, was arrested last night and transported to East Lancashire for questioning.

He appeared before Blackburn Magistrates today where he was remanded into custody to appear at Preston Crown Court on Monday.

His arrest came after Lancashire police teamed up with Lothian and Borders police to carry out raids on a block of flats in the Scottish capital.

An inquest into Mr Ahmed's death has been opened and adjourned.
