PUBS in Burnley are set to unite in tribute to a former Burnley landlady who lost her battle with cancer just over a year ago.

Popular publican Susan Palmer, of Russell Court, ran the White Hart in Church Street for several years with husband Michael.

But she lost her fight with breast cancer at the end of May 2009 aged 51, also leaving behind daughter Chantelle and sons Leon, Matt and Phil.

Now Chantelle has teamed up with one of her best friends, Linda Taylor, for a fancy dress pub crawl around Burnley town centre in her mum’s memory.

Chantelle, 31, of Hufling Lane, Burnley, said: “She was very popular with everyone she met. When it was her funeral they had to put loudspeakers up at the crematorium because there were so many people there.”

Susan, who had five grandchildren, also worked at Interfilter, Farrington Road, before she was forced to quit work through ill health.

“She was very family orientated and loved her grandchildren,” added Chantelle, who also took part in the Race for Life event at Towneley Park on Sunday in aid of Cancer Research.

Family and friends of both Chantelle and Susan will be donning their disguises for the pub crawl, which will set off from The White Hart around 2.30pm on May 30.

Staff at the pub have placed a collecting bucket on the bar and Chantelle has contacted others pub along Yorkshire Street and the town centre to raise awareness of their efforts.

People wanting to donate or become involved in the pub crawl can contact Chantelle on 01282 720043 or enquire at The White Hart.
