Undercover police have launched an operation to highlight under-age drinking ahead of the football World Cup. Three Haslingden pubs; The Commercial Hotel, The Black Bull and The Roebuck Inn failed a test by refusing to ask for two under-age girls for ID, as did the Station Hotel in Helmshore.

In total eight pubs in Rossendale were illegally caught selling alcohol to two teenage girls. The girls, aged 14 and 15, were sent into pubs in Rawtenstall, Haslingden and Helmshore to ask for an alcoholic drink as part of the test.
