COLD callers offering security surveys and cheap burglar alarm systems have been targeting residents in Blackburn.

Police are warning people in Blackburn to be on their guard against cold callers after they received a number of reports about various companies ringing residents.

Officers are advising people to steer clear of these companies and report any concerns to the police.

Crime Prevention Officer Carol Hendey said: “Over the last few weeks we have had a number of reports from concerned residents who have received a telephone call from a company offering to do a security survey or provide a cheap burglar alarm system.

“People have been concerned about the manner in which they have been approached and we are advising residents to not deal with this type of company.

“Although it may seem like a cheap deal, it can end up costing thousands of pounds over a number of years.

“Residents should be reminded to check on the more vulnerable or elderly members of the community as cold callers are more likely to target these people.

“Anyone wanting crime prevention advice on buying a burglar alarm system contact the local police.”
