A CHARITY football match is being organised in memory of a Colne man who died from cancer, aged 42.

The life of Stephen Shorrock, a former Weston EU worker, will be celebrated on Sunday when his workmates from the Burnley and Colne sites line up for a game inside the XCLR stadium.

A one-minute applause will take place before the match kicks off at 2pm.

Stephen died last year just four months after being diagnosed with cancer, and proceeds from the event will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Friend and colleague Mark Bailey, who is organising the event, said: “We want to make the day a really good one for Stephen’s wife, Karen, and his 13-year-old son Conner.

“We are also considering making the memorial match an annual event.”

Other attractions include a bouncy castle, food and drinks, auctions and raffles. Tickets cost £1, with free entry for concessions.
