A RUBBISH-filled back yard has cost an Accrington man more than £2,100 after court action was taken by the borough council.
Mehboob Hussain Ditta, of Blackburn Road, was served a notice to clear the rear yard of his house in autumn last year.
But Hyndburn Council said he refused to co-operate with the notice and ignored numerous attempts to contact him by enforcement teams, and ended up facing magistrates.
He was fined £540, and ordered to pay £75 legal costs, and £1,485.25 investigation and clean- up costs, for a breach of the Environmental Protection Act.
Coun Peter Clarke said: “We will not tolerate this kind of anti-social behaviour. It’s unsightly and unfair on neighbours. We will always take people to court where they refuse to clean up their act.”
