TALENTED furniture students at Burnley College are behind a major new exhibition in the town.

More than 30 students have been polishing up their skills ahead of the event, which is showing off a wide range of pieces, from leather chairs and stools, to hand-crafted tables and chests of drawers in the art gallery at Towneley Hall.

A spokesman for the college said: "The work on display at Burnley College's furniture exhibition has been produced by students who are based at the college's new facilities at the Centre of Construction Studies, in Springhill Road.

"The college's School of Furniture is one of only a handful in the North West and students come from as far as Leigh and Wigan to study full time.

"One HND student moved up from Gloucestershire to attend the school."

The exhibition, which is open to the public, is an annual event for the college and Towneley Hall, and was opened this year by the hall's curator Susan Bourne.

It will run until July 27.

The students whose work is on display are from a range of courses, including the full-time university-level HND course in furniture design and make, part-time courses in upholstery, restoration and cabinet making, and full-time courses in furniture making and production.
