POLLEN predictors are warning that hayfever sufferers in Lancashire will be hit by the high pollen count every day this week.

A team of experts at the University of Worcester today said grass pollen will be high all week and weed pollen will be high until Sunday.

Pollen experts at Flixonase Allergy have issued the following advice to help people in Lancashire minimise the symptoms of hayfever and continue to enjoy the summer:

l Try to stay inside between 5pm and 7pm during the summer months, when pollen counts are usually high. Keep windows and doors closed, especially at these times and when sleeping.

l Wear wraparound sunglasses as much as you can outside; this will help prevent pollen entering your eyes.

l Try to stay away from grassy areas.

l As soon as you get up in the morning use a nasal spray, which will help to prevent and relieve hayfever symptoms for up to 24 hours.

l Use an air conditioner or filter when possible, at home, work, and in the car, to remove pollen and allergens from the air.

l Damp dust and vacuum your home regularly, to minimise the presence of pollen and dust.

l Hang your washing out mid-morning and bring it in before early evening to avoid bringing in a load of pollen into your house.

l Avoid areas of high pollen concentration like long grass, lawn mowings, and trees if allergic to these. If you need to work in these environments consider wearing a mask and goggles.

l Avoid unnecessary extra irritants such as smoke and chemical fumes, which can also irritate your eyes and throat.
