A WOMAN whose 40th birthday party received a visit by the police today stressed it was nothing to do with the World Cup.
The woman, who did not want to be named, was asked to turn down the music at her home in Noble Street, Darwen, after complaints from neighbours at the weekend.
The party happened after two second-round ties, prompting police to issue a general warning for people to keep the noise down, particularly during World Cup matches.
But today the woman said: "The police came and they were in good spirits.
"It was noisy and loud and we turned the music down after they left and it won't happen again.
"It was a one-off and the party had been organised by friends and neighbours.
"There were no hooligans and it was not a party for the World Cup. It was for my 40th birthday."
