THE wards at Burnley General Hospital are now alive with the sound of music after college students bought CD players for patients.
The advanced level healthcare cadets, who have recently completed their advanced apprenticeships in diagnostic and therapeutic support, bought six CD players after raising money through a sponsored treasure hunt at Towneley Park.
The Burnley cadets decided to spend the £210 they raised on CD players after consulting nurses at the hospital to see what patients would like to have.
Ann Eastwood, health and social care tutor, said: "The cadets did well to raise a large amount of money.
"Last year we donated it to charity but this year we decided to put something back into the community."
Derek Edwards, a patient on Ward 11, said: "The CD players are a really good idea and I'm sure patients will get a lot of use out of them.
"It's a wonderful gift as everyone will be able to use them I'm already looking forward to hearing some music they are a fantastic thing to have."
