A FORMER council leader looks set to be made an honorary alderman of Hyndburn.
George Slynn, 79, of Lyndon Avenue, Great Harwood, led Hyndburn Council as a Labour politician for eight years between 1988 and 1999 when he lost his seat.
He served on the borough council for 25 years and also served on Lancashire County Council for almost 20 years.
He caused controversy in 2005 when he defected to the Liberal Democrat group on the county council but is no longer in politics.
A decision on whether to accept Mr Slynn's nomination for alderman status will be made at a meeting of Hyndburn's full council tomorrow.
If two thirds of councillors at the meeting approve the bid he will be accepted and join two other long-standing Labour councillors, former mayors Dave Parkins and Ian Ormerod, in receiving the honour at a ceremony in September.
