PROPOSALS to charge people in Pendle for replacement bins look set to be scrapped after councillors rejected the plans.
However, developers building new homes, or restoring old ones, will have to pay for sets of new bins and recycling boxes.
The decisions were taken by councillors at a meeting to discuss the proposals, drawn up to plug a £20,000 hole in the council’s budget.
But the approved charges are unlikely to bring in £20,000, and councillors will now explore the idea of cutting the number of boxes the council supplies.
Members also agreed to consider encouraging more prosecutions for leaving bins in the street.
Each wheelie bin costs £18.25, plus delivery charges, while each waste box costs £4.01.
For a full set of waste containers, it costs £65.
Every year the council buys, and delivers, around 5,100 replacement bins and 4,700 replacement waste boxes, which are issued free.
This costs the local authority around £80,000 in each financial year.
