TRANSPORT company Burnley and Pendle Travel Ltd has asked undercover cops on to its buses as part of a crackdown on anti-social behaviour.

The scheme is part of the police's Operation Summer Nights initiative.

Briercliffe's neigh-bourhood policing officer, PC Ian Thompson, said: "We ran a similar initiative a couple of years ago following a spate of incidents in Briercliffe and although it was restricted to a very small area it was very successful.

"This time, however, officers will be travelling on buses right throughout Burnley and Pendle as well as services operating in parts of the Rossendale Valley.

"The initiative is designed to ensure that incidents on buses remain very rare and to make sure that where criminal damage or anti-social behaviour does take place, it is quickly detected."

Russell Revill, operations director at Burnley and Pendle Travel Ltd said: "We have an excellent working relationship with local police and we are delighted to be supporting their Operation Summer Nights campaign.

"As a company we are quite clear about standards of behaviour on buses and always seek to prosecute anyone whose behaviour is not acceptable.

"Initiatives like this, coupled with developments like onboard CCTV, mean that passengers can travel throughout Burnley and Pendle on our buses safe in the knowledge that we are doing everything we can to reduce the impact of anti-social behaviour and make their bus journey a very pleasant one."
