TEACHERS, pupils and parents at Burnley's Barden Junior School proved they could walk the walk to help a road safety charity into the record books.

Pupils from the Abel Street school linked up and took part in an hour long stroll around Burnley.

The walk was part of road safety charity's Brake's walking bus which saw at least 70,000 of the UK's children march around their communities.

The charity organised the event to promote road safety on the back of statistics which show a child is hurt on the roads every 16 minutes and in a bid to urge parents to ditch their cars and promote healthy living by walking to school with their children.

Organisers are still collating the evidence but believe they have smashed the 23,000 Guinness record set last year.

Headteacher Simon Smalley said: "We were delighted to take part as raising awareness of road safety is something we take very seriously."
