POLICE are urging World Cup revellers to keep the noise down after they were called to a party in Darwen over the weekend.

The warning came after officers received a number of complaints by angry residents in Noble Street that a house party in the early hours of Sunday had got out of hand.

One angry resident dubbed the noise as loud as "Darwen Music Festival".

Police have confirmed they spoke with the culprits and although no arrests were made, they have urged people to consider their neighbours when getting into the party-mode, especially during the World Cup.

A Lancashire Police spokeswoman said: "We would urge people to exercise a bit of restraint or caution and bear in mind their neighbours.

"It is the summer, nights are light and we have had some warm weather. But it is also the World Cup, which gives people an extra reason for a celebration."

"While people should enjoy the World Cup their celebrations should not be at the expense or detriment of others."

One resident said of the noise: "Darwen Music Festival was back on Saturday night, live and kicking on Noble Street although at least Darwen Music Festival finished at a reasonable time.

"To play music very loudly from early evening on Saturday night to the early hours on Sunday morning shows total disregard for other people. "

Confirming the incident in Noble Street, Sgt Jonathan Cisco added: "We received a couple of complaints about some music going on but it was nothing untoward and when we attended it was just people in good spirits and the music had died down."
