A DANCE floor bumping incident ended with an 18- year-old girl hitting another night-clubber over the head with a bottle, a court was told.

And a magistrate told the attacker it was a mitigating factor that she had only hit her once.

She was given a 12-month conditional discharge and was ordered to pay £200 compensation.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Chelsea Louise Heaton had been celebrating her 18th birthday and had started drinking champagne when she went to the hairdressers in the morning.

She drank more over lunch with her mother, and went home to discover her dad had arranged a surprise party at a Great Harwood pub.

From there, the celebration went on to Heaven and Hell, in Blackburn. A bumping incident led to a fight with another girl and Heaton struck her over the head with a bottle causing a cut. Heaton admitted assault.

Andrew Church-Taylor, defending, said the incident was in November and a caution had been agreed, on condition that Heaton paid £200 compensation to the victim.

He said shortly after that Heaton's father, who she lived with in Great Harwood, had moved to Thailand. He had told her that £3,000 owed to him would be paid to her, but once he had gone the debtor had other ideas.

"She was left without the money to pay the compensation and, as a result, the offer of a conditional caution was withdrawn and she finds herself in court today," said Mr Church-Taylor.
