MUSICIANS of the future will be taking over Oliver's Bar at Burnley Mechanics on June 16 for a special live gig and album launch.

The Bands of BC event sees the culmination of two years work by students at Burnley College studying for a BTec National Diploma in Music Technology and in Musical Practice.

As part of their second year, both groups of students have put together a final major project which involves recording, producing and marketing an album.

They also have to stage an end of year concert as an album launch party.

All the proceeds from the event will go towards the cost of producing the album and staging the night.

All students have been involved in putting the project together and the Bands of BC album features songs composed and performed by music practice students.

The album has been recorded and mixed by music tech students.

For the gig a wide range of bands will be playing live with music tech students being responsible for sound, lighting and stage management on the night.

Among the bands taking part at the live album launch are Seem, a hard rock group; Gooch, a jazz rock outfit with heavy '70s influences, and Columbia, an indie rock band in the same vein as Oasis and the Bluetones. There will also be the acoustic sound of Kimberley Howard.

The Bands of BC, Oliver's Bar, Burnley Mechanics, Friday, June 16. Admission £2, doors open 7.30pm.
