A MAN who was jailed for drug offences in Thailand returned home yesterday and revealed he plans to write a book about his ordeal.

Christopher Egan, who endured a Thai prison nightmare after being jailed almost two years ago, made an emotional return to Whalley after being released from Kirkham Open Prison.

The 35-year-old, who must now live at his parents' house in King Street under the terms of his release, described how he is coming to terms with life outside the prison walls.

He said: "It's wonderful to be home I've waited a long time for this.

"Everything is a bit strange because I haven't been in England for 10 years.

"I just want to start afresh and put it all behind me."

The former pupil at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Blackburn, was repatriated to Wands-worth last September after spending the early part of his two-year sentence in Klongprem Men's Prison, in Thailand, better known as the Bangkok Hilton.

His parents, Tony, a former accountant and member of Blackburn Round Table, and Joan Egan, both 63, regularly visited their son while he was in jail.

He was given a 16-year prison sentence by a court in Thailand after he had been caught with eight amphetamine tablets and marked notes in his luggage.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of possession to avoid a longer prison sentence, but has always denied the allegations.

His sentence was later reduced to eight years, then to four years, and was cut by a further six months as part of an amnesty to mark the Thai queen's birthday.

Christopher added: "I'm hoping to write it all down and put a book together.

"It will be just for myself but, if it's good, then I might be able to get it published."

Under the terms of his early release, Christopher will remain tagged and subject to a curfew to remain at home between 7pm and 7am.

His sentence ends on September 2 this year.
