BUSINESS leaders are celebrating Trafford Park's success in attracting another three major international companies.

They say the park is proving to be a magnet for the world's top companies - and providing a jobs boost to the borough.

Tetra Pak, Volvo and Global One have all recently moved into the area.

The latest successes follow a year in which the park attracted a record £500 million of private investment.

Swedish drinks packaging giant Tetra Pak has opened a new £5 million factory next to Robert Wiseman Dairies, on Lake Road.

The new base will slash transport costs and create 35 jobs.

Volvo - in the form of Manchester Truck and Bus - is this week opening a centre in the Village area, employing 60 people. It includes a bus and truck sales centre and parts service.

Telecommunications firm Global One is investing a seven figure sum in opening a new office at Exchange Quay.

Derek Farmer, commercial director at Trafford Park Development Corporation, says: "This is fantastic news for Trafford Park. More than 900 companies have now been attracted to the park since 1987 - that works out at about two every week.

"The arrival of Tetra Pak, Volvo and Global One demonstrates the growing appeal of Trafford Park as an international business location."

Trafford Park Development Corporation was set up 10 years ago to kick-start the regeneration of the area. Around 23,000 jobs have since been attracted to the park, bringing the total workforce to 43,500.

Trafford Park Development Corporation has just been chosen as the winner of the prestigious best practice award by the British Urban Regeneration Association.
