As letters in the Citizen over recent weeks have shown there is a continuing interest in discussing the role in society of religion in general and Christianity in particular.
Readers of the Citizen may, therefore, be interested in a series of lectures which has been organised by Churches Together in Chorley involving key Christian leaders from the North West of England.
Yesterday, Tuesday (March 7) the retired Roman Catholic Bishop of Hexom was in St Laurence Church, Chorley, to give the first of this year's Lent Lectures. His theme was The Church's Constant Need for Repentance and Renewal.
Each Tuesday throughout Lent will see a major speaker lecturing in the town's churches.
Next Tuesday (March 14) Bishop Nicholas, the Church of England Bishop of Blackburn, will be at St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, his title being Why the Church in 2006?
The following week (March 21) will see the Moderator of the NW Synod of the United Reformed Church speaking at Trinity Methodist Church on the theme Faithful echoes of the Reformation.
St George's Church is the venue on March 28 when the Chairman of the Methodist District will have the theme A Nation out of control. The concluding lecture on the April 4 will be given by the Principal of Runshaw College at Hollinshead United Reformed Church with a lecture entitled Christian Leadership in a Secular Institution.
All these lectures, which are free, start at 7pm and all are welcome to attend.
