A TEENAGE sex pest who flashed at elderly women in a Pendle town has been ordered to behave or face court.

The 16-year-old boy, from Barnoldswick, has been given a final warning by police.

Today the town's top officer reassured elderly residents they were safe following the boy's arrest on St Valentine's Day.

Police launched an undercover operation after receiving numerous reports, dating back to January 29, that a teenager was exposing himself, or putting his hands down his trousers.

On Tuesday, police were called to Cobden Street and arrested a 16-year-old boy, who was given a final warning after he admitted eight offences of indecent exposure, or behaving indecently.

Sergeant Andy Cartwright said the measure was one below taking the boy to court.

He said: "On Tuesday evening we received further reports of similar incidents and very quickly officers located a young man who was arrested.

"He was interviewed and admitted eight offences, some of exposing himself and some of an indecent nature.

"Instead of putting him through the courts, the boy will work with social services to resolve his issues and stop offending.

"If he was to commit further offences the next step would be court."

All the incidents took place in the Valley Gardens, and Essex Street areas of Barnoldswick.

However, Sgt Cartwright said he wanted to hear from any other victims who had not reported incidents.

He added: "I can reassure people this is an extremely rare offence in this part of the world. Police acted extremely swiftly, and we are sure these incidents will cease."
