TODMORDEN Town Council has called on Calderdale Council to put its hand in its pocket for the town's new CCTV system.
The cameras were switched on for the first time last month but are already at the centre of controversy following the town council's calls.
Calderdale has contributed to the cost of CCTV cameras elsewhere in the borough.
Town councillors are suggesting a figure of £35,000 a year, and are being supported by the leader of the Labour group, Coun Helen Rivron, and the leader of the Liberal Democrats, Coun Michael Taylor, who lives in Todmorden.
Aside from the money row, police are confident the new system will improve Todmorden.
West Yorkshire Police crime prevention officer Stuart Graham was among those who attended the switch-on in Burnley Road and said: "Twenty-four hour monitored CCTV cameras in the other towns in Calderdale have helped enormously in driving out crime and anti-social behaviour.
"We have high hopes that the new cameras in Todmorden will be equally successful."
