FORMER Smiths singer Morrissey is currently two-thirds of his way through a massive 30-date UK tour - and he'll be in Blackburn tonight.

The gladioli-swinging Mancunian will be at King George's Hall to showcase his new album Ringleader Of The Tormentors, which topped the chart on its release last month.

Morrissey is primarily known for his time as the lead singer of legendary 80s indie act The Smiths, adding witty and self-deprecating lyrics to the inventive guitar riffs of Johnny Marr on tracks like This Charming Man, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out and Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now.

Morrissey and Marr fell out and the band split in 1987, with Mozza going on to rack up a whopping 27 top 40 solo hits, including celebrated releases like Suedehead, Everyday Is Like Sunday and The More You Ignore Me The Closer I Get, right up to You Have Killed Me, which equalled his highest single chart position of 3 last month.

The Smiths played in Blackburn on one of their early tours, at a venue known as the Gum Club, while Morrissey has previously played the King George's Hall in both 1991 and 2002.

Morrissey plays King George's Hall in Blackburn on Thursday, May 11. Tickets are sold out.
