A DRUNKEN man racially abused a police officer called to a caravan park disturbance, a court was told.

Saqub Ali, 21, of College Street, Accrington, swore at the "Indian" officer, struggled violently as officers tried to handcuff him and tried to bite an officer's hand, Burnley magistrates heard.

The defendant admitted racially aggravated threats, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, allegations of resisting a police officer and failing to surrender.

He was ordered to complete 120 hours of community service.

John Nuttall, defending, said Ali fully accepted the hurt caused by racial abuse and knew it would not be tolerated.

His girlfriend had been arrested and he didn't understand why.

He tried to remonstrate with the officer, but things clearly got out of hand.
