THREE DJs who launched their own night in an attempt to away from the "one genre only" rule are set to taste success on a bigger stage.

Two years ago, Blend was added to the list of monthly events at Jazzy Kex in Blackburn, and had one simple aim: If it sounded good, it went on the decks.

Now the trio behind it Darreners Kevin McCormick and Jimmy Movement and Chorley DJ Carlyle Glass are moving their night to 53 Degrees, Preston's newest nightclub.

Jazzy Kex holds several hundred while 53 Degrees, also the home of superclub Feel, holds up to 2,000.

Kevin is understandably excited by the opportunity.

He said: "We'd been doing Blend at Jazzy Kex for about two years every month and this year we wanted to try do something a bit different, more one-off, in a bigger venue.

"We don't think there are any other nights like ours. Wherever you go, everything seems to be just one type of music. House is everywhere so we started Blend to bring together a mix of music.

"We managed to get DJs to come out of Manchester to our night and it has been a success. We just want to try something different."

Kevin has been collecting records for about a decade and has become a well-known name on the decks in Blackburn over the last four years, having started out at North Bar in Town Hall Street.

Kevin is particuarly excited about the guest DJ they have lined up for the Preston date, Hacienda legend Greg Wilson.

He said: "Greg is a hero of mine. He virtually introduced electronic dance to the UK and has made such a difference to the dance scene.

"I'm excited to be playing alongside him, for sure."

Blend takes over 53 Degrees on Saturday, February 11. TIckets are £6 with NUS, £8 without and it's pay on the door only.
