AS HOMER Simpson once heckled at The Who in concert: "No talk, no new stuff, just play the hits." And let's be honest, that pretty much sums up exactly what you want when you go to see your heroes live.

The hundreds of die-hard fans crammed into King George's Hall, Blackburn, for last night's League Of Gentlemen Are Behind You tour wouldn't have been disappointed.

The show begins with members of Legz Akimbo organising a community nativity play "communitivity". But of course everything goes horribly wrong and the residents of Royston Vasey have to step in and save the day.

I don't want to spill the beans for anyone who's planning to see the show when it returns to Blackburn on November 16 but the highlights include Widow Pauline's stirring rendition of "It's Raining Pens", Mickey talking of washing his face with a potato and Herr Lipp's double-entendre packed seduction of "Justin, Justin my very own Justin".

Steve Pemberton has said in interviews this tour is really two shows in one and you certainly feel you get your money's worth I can't think of a single character who didn't get a look in.

As with most live comedy, the gents forfeit some of the subtlety you see in their shows for the instant big laughs of more obvious humour but that's what works.

The star of the show had to be Pauline, picking on the "Blackburn dole scum" audience clapping with their "little six-fingered hands".

Swap your granny for tickets you won't regret it.
