Christmas has come early for Twickenham quintet Mystery Jets, who have found themselves included on the bill for the 2006 NME Awards tour, the UK's most popular new bands showcase.

There exist few speedier chauffeur rides to commercial success (first on this year were Kaiser Chiefs, the year before it was Franz Ferdinand).

Formed when frontman Blaine Harrison and guitarist Will Rees were but eight years old they inhabit an island on The Thames and stage shows on the shore whenever they feel like it.

Less catchy, but no less quirky, than its immediate predecessor You Can't Fool Me Dennis, Alas Agnes is pretty whack, from its wilfully wonky melody to Harrison's screwy lyric.

This oddball outfit cloak memorable tunes in chaotic eccentricity. Do you want a piece of them?

Released December 5, 2005.
