AT LONG last residents of Lancaster and Morecambe have been offered a solution to the Heysham-M6 link road controversy which is effective and meets long held goals.
The revised western route, with underpass going beneath the River Lune at Snatchems, will by-pass residential areas and provide a swift and affordable route to and from Heysham and Morecambe without the devastation inherent in the northern link which Lancashire County Council is currently promoting.
Those responsible for blighting the original Western route will pour scorn on the feasibility of the plans, but they need look no further for answers than Holland - where engineers, planners and environmental experts have successfully placed major roads beneath tidal estuaries without damaging environmentally sensitive areas.
If they can do it, so can we!
It is time for the county to start thinking outside the box' and look at the plans the Citizen has publicised.
