I AM disgusted that some of our local councillors take the view that the northern route for the proposed Heysham to M6 link road must be supported at any cost because the western route has been rejected on environmental grounds.

They seem to have no concern at all for the residents of areas such as Halton and Torrisholme, and the environmental and other factors which would seriously undermine the residents' quality of life.

My view is that they should listen to Geraldine Smith MP, who has rightly pointed out that the council should look at changes to the western route to avoid the environmental factors which led to the advice that the route would be rejected.

Prior to the Autumn of 2004 there appeared to be a majority of people agreeing that the western route would be the most effective and less people would be affected.

Indeed several councillors and our MP said that this was their preferred route.

The other major factors is there is no justification for such a huge expense when the northern route would give little benefits to most long distance travellers and almost none to people facing delays in travelling between Lancaster and Morecambe.

I do hope that the council will reject the northern route and look into reviving the western route to make it more effective in meeting the aims of the link and to reduce the impact on people.

Michael J Franklin, Torrisholme.
