NEW jobs are to be created by the firm which rescued the Time computer brand from the ashes.

Several of the firms based at the Time Technology Park, Simonstone, have organised a recruitment open day tomorrow to fill 50 telesales positions.

Time Technology Park is the former home of Time Computers, which went into administration last July amid spiralling debts.

Last month it was revealed assets at one of the firms operating from the business park, VMT, had been bought by a new company, along with rights to use the Time brand. The firm Time UK Factory Ltd is to begin manufacturing computers from the site again and has joined with firms including Total Care and Support Ltd, and Supanet Ltd, also based on the industrial estate, to recruit staff.

And today a former staff member from the original Time firm said she would happily work at the same factory, despite bad memories.

Bill Slater, sales director of Time UK Factory Ltd, said: "This open day is exclusively for people interested in telephone sales, and collectively the park has over 50 jobs on offer.

"We are expecting several hundred candidates who will get a chance to learn more about the companies, ask questions and also speak to existing sales staff."

When the original Time went into administration a number of workers complained they had been badly treated, and they only found out the true situation thanks to local newspapers.

But despite Time's unhappy ending, Michelle Dennett, 38, of Padiham, enjoyed working on the factory shop floor so much she stayed for nine years, and today said she was still unemployed and would love to go back to work there.

She said: "I wouldn't mind going back because I liked it there. I have seen a few people who used to work there, some of them who want to go back. Some of them said they wouldn't go back.

"I would give it another chance because I liked it there."

Currently the jobs being made available are only in telesales, but Time UK Factory Ltd has previously not ruled out hiring former Time staff in the future.

Amad Ahmed, sales manager at Supanet Ltd, a broadband provider on the site, said: "We would expect successful applicants to have some previous experience of inbound or outbound telephone sales."

Helen Boyle, services manager at Total Care and Support Ltd, a firm offering warranty and support for consumer electronic goods and computers, said: "An open day at Time Technology Park six years ago attracted over 2,000 visitors. This open day is restricted to sales staff only, but we are still hoping for several hundred visitors."

Tomorrow's open day runs from 10am to 1pm at the reception, Time Technology Park, Blackburn Road, Simonstone. For more information call 0870 121 3193.
