Read what Burnley supporters thought of the £1.75m transfer of Ade Akinbiyi.

Steve Cotterill needs the money from Ade's sale to strengthen the squad otherwise we will end up losing not only a good, passionate manager but also lots of fans.

Kilby needs to give Cotterill control.

Azhar Ali, Brierfield

When looked at logically, the sale is the right thing for the club.

In less than a year we have made £1.15 million profit on Ade and for any club in this league, particularly a club of our size, that's hard to turn down - especially when you consider his age.

The part of me that doesn't want to listen to logic, however, thinks about the fact that this has happened every year in the recent past.

The 10,000 or so Burnley fans who are there every home match would be there no matter who was in the team, but the gates will only reach the levels required financially if we show ambition and build a quality team that can score goals.

Without Ade, I think we will struggle to score the number of goals that will bring the gates that this club needs.

I have complete faith in Steve, but will we really be able to bring someone in of Ade's quality on the money that's going to be available? I only hope that Steve stays with us despite his best players being sold.

Laura, London

Selling a 31-year-old for £1.75m and making £1.1m profit is a brilliant bit of business

Well done Mr Chairman, well done.

Up the Clarets.

Mike Buller, Rossendale

IT'S a real shame to see him go, but it's good money depending how much cash we are getting up front and we have to believe that Steve Cotterill knows which strikers he can replace Ade with.

Let's face it, managers are always enquiring about players and Steve now has nearly a week to secure a half-season loan or permanent signing (maybe two or three) to enable us to move forward.

As for the play-offs - there's still a chance.

PS - Good luck, Ade.

Chris Randall, Balloch, Dunbartonshire

Selling Ade is good business of course, but only if he is replaced by at least two other strikers of reasonable quality.

If not, it's a disaster which will not only kill our play-off hopes completely but attendances will drop reflecting the board's lack of ambition and commitment.

A knock-on effect could be a massive drop in season ticket sales for next season undermining any financial gains by a considerable amount.

I'm sure Steve Cotterill will have targets in mind pre-empting Ade's sale and whilst disappointing it may be now it could be a blessing in disguise - but only if his targets are purchased.

If not we may well see one of BFC's best post-War managers depart and at what price will good business have cost the club then Mr Kilby?

Maybe a band in the North stand next year, Mr K. Well, the Titanic had one !!

Paul Harvey, Rossendale

I can appreciate the business aspect of this outcome. However, it does nothing to diminish my immense disappointment at losing a proven striker.

We all saw on Saturday that we need quality strikers.

The questions now are:

1. Will Steve want to stay?

2. Will he be given any of the funds to go into the transfer market?

3. Will he be able to find a proven striker at such late notice?

4. What do the Board think they are doing?

5. Why should we pay our money to go to Turf Moor when it is clear that the Board do not have the same ambitions as the supporters?

Dr Reg England, Preston

This is a good deal for the club. A potential £1.1m profit on a single player, who is 31, is good business.

I am pleased to hear that a 'vast-majority' of his fee will be re-invested into building the squad, and that Mr Kilby has stated that targets have already been identified.

My only concern is to the limited time left to find suitable players before the transfer window closes.

Finally, my thanks to Ade Akinbiyi for giving 100 per cent to Burnley Football Club and its fans.

Paul Duckworth, Farnham, Surrey

Ade was a very hardworking player, never gave up and was fully committed to the cause.

I am very saddened by his departure but that's where it ends.

He is a big lad and did not compete physically especially in the air as he should, he missed three 'open' goals around the New Year.

We would have won at QPR and still been in the FA Cup if his finishing matched the rest of his all-round play.

As a team we will be far superior by having a pair of quality strikers both capable of scoring than relying on Ade.

I hope he does brilliantly at Sheffield and wish him the very best for all he contributed to the Clarets.

Robin Harvey, Droitwich

As far as I can see, this will be a good deal for Barry Kilby and the board but not for the average Burnley fan like myself.

Will this be the thin edge of the wedge that could push Steve Cotterill towards the exit? We ALL have a price, don't we?
