A 35-YEAR-OLD disqualified driver took his brother's car without permission and sped off, forcing his brother and mother to jump out of the way, a court was told.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Martin Kelly later failed to stop for police and, when he was eventually arrested, refused to give a specimen for analysis.

Kelly, of Hamilton Street, pleaded guilty to unauthorised taking, driving while disqualified, and without insurance, failing to provide, failing to stop, and driving without due care.

He also pleaded guilty to breach of a community rehabilitation order imposed for driving with excess alcohol, resisting a police officer, and possession of amphetamine.

The order was revoked and Kelly was sentenced to a total of 150 days in prison for all offences.

Kevin Preston, defending, said Kelly had eight children and, at the time of the offence, was going through a rough patch with his partner and mother of five of them.

He was staying with his mother, and when he took the car intended to go and visit his children.
