The significant number of serious accidents in the area recently concerns me and prompts the question.
It seems obvious that the following are contributory factors: Vehicle congestion at peak periods; bad driving habits such as failing to signal intentions, speeding and using mobile phones; dangerous junctions along Preston Road, Southport Road and Euxton Lane; inappropriate traffic calming measures which damage vehicles; extremely poor surfaces.
The presence of the traffic management unit, during the roadworks being undertaken at Preston Road, has been more than useful.
But I find it incredible that council engineers allowed the contractors to leave the road surface surrounding the Euxton Lane roundabout in such a poor and potentially dangerous state for the whole of the Christmas period.
The announcement of 200 new jobs created by Lex on the Buckshaw Village development is welcome news. But how will this increase in employment impact on road congestion within the borough?
I very much doubt that such companies will only recruit from Buckshaw Village residents as claimed by planners in the past.
The road system surrounding the village continues to be inadequate and presents concerns regarding road safety.
I do hope that someone in authority will examine closely the causes of the recent accidents and take appropriate action to reduce the existing problems.
