WITH reference to K Elvey's letter (LET, December 27), according to the McPherson report, compiled after the murder of Stephen Lawrence, an attack is deemed racist if the victim perceives it to be so.

The fact that this piece of 'Alice in Wonderland' logic was taken seriously at all, demonstrates how far down the road to complete idiocy this country has travelled.

The process began with the implementation of Race Relations laws, which were essentially a charter for whingers.

These laws encouraged 'minorities' to regard themselves as permanent victims and therefore always in the right, and this caused resentment among the majority, who were always in the wrong.

This situation will be exacerbated further when the absurd incitement to religious hatred legislation is forced on to the statute books.

Personally, I would prefer to see all crimes treated equally and would sweep away all legislation relating to race, which by its very nature must be administered so subjectively.

P ALLEN (Mr), Avenue Parade, Accrington.
