Blackpool have confirmed that caretaker boss Simon Grayson has been appointed as full time manager of the club.

The 36 year old, who joined the club as a player in 2003, had previously worked as reserve team coach.

He was appointed caretaker boss following the sacking of Colin Hendry in November.

On his appointment, Grayson said: "It's a great honour and is something I've been working hard towards. It gives the club a bit of stability."

"So far it's been a rollercoaster ride, I didn't realise how hard it would be regarding transfers.

"You are constantly on the phone trying to get players in and out.

"As a player you go home at half one and switch off, as a manager you can't. But if you don't put the hours in, you don't get rewards."

Being one of the most popular players at the club some thought it may be difficult for 'Larry' to make the transition from player to boss.

But it's something which Grayson says has not been a problem.

"I still have a bit of a laugh with the lads, but I think I have the respect of them.

"I am the one that's making the decisions for the club; I will live and die by them, so people have to respect them."

"I got to know the players whilst I was playing, and all I've tried to do with them is be honest.

"Honesty and communication is vital between manager and player."

Following his appointment as caretaker, Grayson brought in former Blackburn Rovers coaches Tony Parkes and Asa Hartford.

He believes they have been a massive help.

"They've been there for me, they've done really well and the lads have responded well.

"You don't stay in the game as long as they have, without knowing a bit about the game!"
