A WOMAN who pushed a glass into the face of a Blackburn pubgoer has been given a suspended jail term.

Kerry Parkinson was 25 weeks pregnant when she used violence towards a man who had approached her table in the Horden Arms, Livesey Branch Road.

A court was told that she was a "wonderful mother" who had carried out the spontaneous act in the heat of the moment.

The 25-year-old woman, of Heyworth Avenue, Black-burn, had pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful wounding.

A Preston Crown Court judge gave her 51 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, together with two years supervision by the probation service.

David Macro, prosecuting, said it was May 1 last year when Mark Hoyle was out with his wife and friends.

It was late that evening when a friend of his was larking about and pushing and pulling at a table where the defendant, her partner and her mother were sitting.

This resulted in drinks being spilled and the friend provided replacement drinks.

Mr Hoyle then became involved by going over to the defendant's table and an argument took place. At one point he gently slapped the face of Parkinson's partner.

The defendant pushed a drinks glass she was holding into his face.

This resulted in a one-inch cut which needed five stitches inserting at hospital.
