BURNLEY'S trip to Brighton at the end of the month will stay as orginally scheduled.

Many Clarets fans had called for the game to be switched from January 31 back to January 28 - the date of the fourth round of the FA Cup.

After both sides were knocked out of the competition, fans urged Burnley to make the switch after the south coast club made signals to that effect.

But manager Steve Cotterill has arranged to take his team away after the Preston game for some much needed rest and relaxation and won't arrive back until Monday lunchtime.

And Burnley chief executive Dave Edmundson said it was in the best interests of the football club and the fans to play the game on the scheduled date.

He said: "After further meetings, the match will remain as previously scheduled because it's in the best interests of Burnley Football Club, the team and the considerable amount of supporters who had made arrangements to go to the game on the Tuesday evening.

"We had one speculative phone call from the Brighton and Hove Albion's club secretary to our secretary Cathy Pickup on Tuesday afternoon, but there had been no other communication with them previous to, or after, the FA Cup game at Derby last weekend.

"We like to help our fans in whichever way possible to attend the games, but in this instance, we feel it's in the best interest to keep the game on the date it had previously been arranged for."

Boundary Clarets Supporters Club committee member said: "We're disappointed with the decision but there's not much we can do about it now.

"I think the travelling support will be halved but for those of us who are there they'll have to reward us with a performance now."
