A BURNLEY-born man will face trial next year accused of the murder of a police constable.

Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah appeared before the Recorder of Leeds, Judge Norman Jones QC, at the city's Crown Court yesterday when a date for his trial was set for next June.

Shah, 24, who was born in Burnley, but moved to London as a child, is accused of killing Bradford policewoman Sharon Beshenivsky last month.

He is charged with the officer's murder, the attempted murder of her colleague PC Teresa Milburn, robbery and firearms offences, on November 18.

Shah and Yusuf Jama, 19, who is charged with murder, will appear at Leeds Crown Court on June 12.

The trial is scheduled to last four weeks. Shah was remanded in custody and will appear next at Leeds Crown Court on March 22.

PC Beshenivsky and PC Milburn were shot as they investigated a robbery at a travel agent's in Bradford city centre. West Yorkshire Police are continuing to hunt for Yusuf Jama's brother, Mustaf, 25, who is wanted for questioning in connection with the shooting of the 38-year-old mother-of-three and PC Milburn, 37, who was seriously injured.

Rewards totalling £90,000 are being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for the crime.
