The town is spiralling towards its own permanent radio station in 2006 and now there is a new logo for Chorley FM.

The Citizen joined forces with Chorley FM to ask for non-professional designers to come up with a logo which will adorn all of the station's merchandise, such as car stickers, posters, T-shirts and banners.

The winner of the competition is 15-year-old Rhys Griffiths, of Pear Tree Avenue, Coppull.

He submitted four ideas and the winner, judged by the board of Chorley FM, was a spiral design in green.

Room has been left on the design so that the radio frequency can be inserted once it becomes known.

Rhys, who attends Southlands High School, said: "I saw the competition and it took my interest so I put in a few hours designing on the computer and sent in some ideas. I never thought I'd win though.

"The spiral design was my favourite and it will be a buzz to see the design in the lead up to the station and once it gets on air.

"When I'm older I want to get into marketing or advertising so something like this will be great for my CV."

Rhys's logo was polished up by graphic designer Gill Prosser, from Adlington, who gave up her time for free to enhance the design to professional standards.

Chorley FM was granted a permanent licence by Ofcom in August this year. Much hard work is now being undertaken by the team to prepare for the station launch which will be in the summer of 2006.

Christian Moss, chair of Chorley FM, said: "The design of the logo is just what the radio station is all about -- community involvement. It's great to see young people participating in these early stages.

"All the entries we received were of very high quality and it was a tough task to shortlist the designs and eventually come up with a winner.

"Rhys has come up with a strong clear and bright logo and it will be on all promotional material connected with Chorley FM."
